How to Sign Up For Medicare

Call or pay a visit to your local Social Security office.
This needs to be done three months before your 65th birthday, otherwise your benefits will be delayed. The phone number is 1-800-772-1213 You will need to provide your proof of id and Social Security number as well as date of birth and medical information.

Apply online.
In some cases it may be possible for you to apply online. Just visit socialsecurity.gov where you will need to answer so questions to determine if you are eligible to apply online for the Medicare health insurance program.

Apply for Medicare benefits only.
If you wish to receive Medicare benefits only and not Social Security you cannot apply online and will need to either call or visit your local Social Security office. Remember this should be done three months before your 65th birthday.

Medicare is a health insurance available to people 65 and older and to some people with disabilities.
This government assistance program is partially funded by payroll taxes paid by employers and their employees. And from premiums that are deducted form Social Security checks.

If you are already close to 65 years of age and already get social security then you are automatically enrolled in medicare. And will receive your medicare card approx. three months before your 65th birthday.
