Bed Sores & Staph Infection

Staph Infections

You can find the bacteria Staphylococcus on the skin and nose of healthy individuals. When the bacterium enters broken skin, the bacteria may cause a skin infection.

Symptoms of Staph

Staph infection can exhibit itself as a red, raised bump or a blister. The symptoms can be painful.

Bed Sores

Bed sores, also known as pressure sores, occur because of prolonged pressure between bone and a firm surface like a cast, mattress or wheel chair.

Symptoms of Bed Sores

Bed sores can appear red and feel painful, usually appearing around the hips and buttocks. Untreated, the skin can blister, break and become infected.

Blood poisoning (septicemia) may occur in both bed sores and staph infections. It occurs when bacteria enters the bloodstream.

See a physician if you see the development of pus or have a fever. Also watch for broken skin and foul odor coming from sores.
